Nelson Mandela Biography
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. His parents were Nonqapi Nosekeni, and Nkosi Mphakaknyiswa Gadla. Nelson went to primary school in Qunu. Qunu is a small rural village in Africa that is about 0.64 square miles. Nelson’s first name was Rolihlahla but then his teacher gave him the name Nelson Mandela. He was born in Mvezo,Transkei which is a small village. After he went to Clarkebury Boarding Institute which is in Engcobo, Eastern Cape, in South Africa where he completed his junior certificate. He went to college at University of Fort Hare. Nelson wanted a degree in bachelor of Art. Sadly, Nelson got expelled for joining a student protest at Fort Hare. After he went to University of South Africa and completed his BA.
In 1941 Nelson worked as a security office. In 1944 Nelson married Evelyn Mase. Nelson had 7 children. Their names Makaziwe Mandela (Dies after 9 months), Zenani Mandela, Makgatho Mandela, Madiba Thembekile Mandela, Zindziswa Mandela, Malengani Machel, and Josina Z. Machel. Nelson got the Nobel Peace Prize in 1933 for how he impacted Apartheid and for laying the foundation for a democratic South Africa. Also for the peaceful termination of Apartheid. Nelson has received more than 250 awards. Nelson Mandela put effort against AIDS. Nelson’s son died from AIDS. Nelson says, “AIDS is a war that needs to be won.” Nelson and also Oliver Tambo opened the first black legal firm in South Africa. Nelson provided legal aid to blacks which is free legal advice or representation for a person who cannot afford it. In 1957 Nelson’s marriage ends with Evelyn and then he marries “Winnie in 1958 and they have 2 children. Nelson and Winnie get divorced in 1996. Then Nelson marries Graca Marchel in 1998. Nelson became president before his marriage with Graca. On his 80th birthday. He became president on May 10th 1994. In 2001 Nelson is diagnosed with prostate cancer. Nelson has chest infections and goes to the hospital a lot throughout his life. He even spent his 95th birthday in the hospital and had to stay in the hospital from July- September. Sadly, Nelson recently died on December 5th. He had such a impact on so many people even not in South Africa. He really fought for others peoples happiness throughout his life. He risked his life so many times and had so many challenges because of what he was trying to do for other people. Everyone throughout the world has only good memories of Nelson Mandela.

Moral Courage
Nelson Mandela showed a huge amount of moral courage. Despite all the hard challenges he faced in his life, they all made him the amazing human he turned out to be. One of the challenges being Apartheid he managed to fight and get the Nobel Peace Prize. This shows that he took one of his obstacles and turned it into a positive. This shows a lot of bravery and shows how much Nelson Mandela fought for equality. Nelson helped end discrimination in Africa and helped give black people full citizenship. Nelson never gave up on his goals. He really put a lot of effort in protecting the human rights of Africans. All Nelson did was show creativity, bravery, and courage. He was a peacemaker. He helped so many people get the freedom they needed and reach their goals. He was an amazing person and everyone remembers him that way.
